The Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union

The Presidency of the Council of the European Union rotates among EU member states every six months. The rotating Presidency is held for a period of 18 months by the so-called Presidential Trio, consisting of three countries with a common political programme. The main tasks of the Bulgarian EU Presidency are the following:

  • to participate in determining the political priorities and the Programme of the Trio;
  • to coordinate and chair the work of the Council of the EU for a period of six months;
  • to play the role of a mediator and an honest broker in order to build consensus among the Member States on a broad range of topics.
