An informal joint meeting of the Working Party on Development Cooperation (CODEV) and the Working Party on Humanitarian Aid and Food Aid (COHAFA) of the Council of the EU will take place on 19 and 20 March 2018 in Borovets. Issues related to development cooperation and to the countries and regions in humanitarian crisis as a result of conflicts and natural disasters will be discussed at the meeting.
The main focus of the meeting will be the relation between humanitarian aid and development cooperation in the context of the new European Consensus on Development and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The experts will exchange views and good practices and discuss common actions for the future cooperation between donor and recipient countries in providing humanitarian aid in crisis situations.
Concrete examples for implementing and managing the interdependence between humanitarian aid and development, enhancing sustainability and the opportunities for response of the countries in crisis situations will be discussed. The need to prevent and resolve conflicts in order to avoid humanitarian crises, and the relation between forced migration and humanitarian aid and development will also be among the topics of the meeting.
Among the participants will be representatives of the academic sector and of non-profit organisations. They will present their points of view on development and enhancing the link between the provision of humanitarian aid and development cooperation.
The meeting is part of the calendar of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
